A Biologist at the Design Table, Whitney leads many client workshops, acting as a biology expert, and gives professional talks. (Watch her talk at the Cusp Conference, 2010)

 

Whitney’s most visible work in biomimicry was featured as a part of Fast Company’s Biomimicry Challenge. IBM challenged a team from Smart Design to use the company’s information technology to help municipal governments create healthier, more intelligent urban environments for their residents. Along with IBM, the design team chose to concentrate on making cities smarter in regards to water.

 

Acting as both a design team member and a biologist at the design table, Whitney worked with the team to develop a comprehensive plan helping individuals, the community, and the larger society recognize water boundaries of the area and react by modifying their behavior.
